EGGnoggin Rules and Regulations

__________________________

RESEARCH PHASE

1. An adult school staff member must supervise each team participating in the Competition. This teacher will be referred to as the "coach" or the “instructor” in the EGGnoggin Competition Regulations. An “instructor” can supervise more than one team. The instructor or coach will also serve as the contact person. Home-Schooled teams must also provide a coach or instructor for the Competition.

2. A team will consist of at least two, but no more than twelve students. Teams must match the appropriate categories of EGGnoggin Competition:

  “Brain Train” for grade Six

Brain Busters” for grade Seven

    “Cranium Crunches” for grade Eight

A mixed team is permitted. Example: A team may consist of students from both grades seven and eight. Teams made of mixed students- MUST join in the higher category. In this case, it would be the Cranium Crunches Division.

3. The EGGnoggin staff will see that teams will never compete against more than 9 other schools in the Competition.  (A ten-team maximum per category.) This provides for a greater chance to place as one of the prize-winning teams.

4. Each team will choose a “Team Name” on a team roster and submit it to EGGnoggin, listing the names of the students and their current grade. Both “electronic” and “paper” copies of the roster are required. The signature of the principal, or other administrator, must accompany the “paper” copy.  A district check or purchase order to cover the Competition Fees can be submitted after the registration process. Purchase Orders from each school district will hold a team's reservation in the Competition. See
FEES in the menu.

5. Each Team in the Competition will receive a “Research Assignment” at exactly the same time, via email. And each team will have two weeks to complete the research. Assignments will be “age appropriate” and will be selected carefully to make sure the Competition will hold the students’ interest. All teams in the same competition will receive the same Research Assignment. EGGnoggin is not responsible for school calendar variations, missed days or absenteeism. Our next competition date is listed on the home page. Coaches can expect the Research Assignment early in the morning on the first day of the research phase.

6. All forms (Internet, Periodicals, Newspapers, Text Books and Hard Back Encyclopedias) of research sourcing are permitted.

7. Home research is permitted and encouraged. Parental assistance is also permitted.

8. Note taking, book marking and document productions are permitted.

9. Instructors are permitted to assist students with the research, but are limited to assisting in the Evaluation phase. (Similar to any test or quiz given in a classroom.)

10. School District Policy and Instructor Guidelines regarding Internet usage must be followed.

 EGGSam PHASE

1. On the 14th calendar day (two weeks after the Research Topic is received), the EGGSam phase of the Competition will begin.

2. Two weeks into the competition, teams will meet in the room of their chosing, to receive the "evaluation" phase or EGGSam. (Should EGGStenuating circumstances prevent the Completion of the Evaluation Phase, other accommodations will be made to assist any team finding it impossible to meet that day.)  All changes are subject to EGGnoggin approval and all decisions will be final. Instructions will be sent to participating teams prior to EGGSam Day. Those instructions will allow the teams to receive the EGGSam at anytime (during that day) they choose.

3. All teams will have a total of 90 minutes to complete the evaluation phase. All accumulated information found during the “Research Phase” may be used in this evaluation part. EGGnoggin is not responsible for materials left at home by the students.

4. The EGGSam is designed to take 75 minutes. The additional 15 minutes may be used by the coach or instructor in any way they please. All EGGSams must be returned within 90 minutes of the time the team logs into the email address to receive the test. Late returns will be declared null and void.  (EGGSeptions may be granted for power outages, internet downtime, and other emergencies.)  Email addresses from which EGGSams are sent, WILL NOT BE PROVIDED until the day before the EGGSam Competition.

5. As stated, the total time allowed for the Competition-Evaluation phase will be 90 minutes. Teams are NOT required to wait for that time to expire - They can submit their answers on the questionnaire (EGGSAM) at ANY TIME. Winning teams will be determined by the number of questions marked "correct" and all returned questionnaires must be received by EGGnoggin within 90 minutes of the time they were DOWNLOADED or RECEIVED. LATE RETURNS (unless given prior permission by EGGnoggin) will result in a NO SCORE, and those teams will be inelligible for rewards. THE TOTAL TIME, between the download (receiving) of the exam, and time it is returned, will be kept in the data base in the email account used.

6. In event of a tie between two or more teams with the same number of correct answers, The Total Time used to take the exam will serve as the tiebreaker. Remember, a team can submit their answers at ANY TIME after the competition begins. Times will be electronically stored. All decisions by judges and researchers at EGGnoggin are final. In most cases EGGnoggin will award ties with equal ribbons and certificates, but First Place Plaques may be an EGGseption.

7. All Teams in the Competition will receive feedback with corrected EGGSams, from the Evaluation. The place of finish will be provided along with a copy of those questions marked correct and those marked incorrect. A follow up session is recommended by instructors but is not mandatory. Top five place winners in each category will appear in the menu under RECENT RESULTS.  Submitting Winning photos are an option that the coach and school district may choose.

8. First Place Teams will receive an engraved, wooden plaque, blue ribbons and certificates. (See AWARDS  in the Menu.) The top 4 place winners will receive Ribbon and Certificate rewards. Fifth Place finishers will receive Color Certificates. And all participants who do not place will receive white certificates of participation. (Certificates will be suitable for framing.) See CATEGORIES and AWARDS for further details.
